Key Areas of Work

Community health

The Problem

Due to extreme remote location of the villages of Kaimur wildlife sanctuary, the access of locals to basic health facilities is very poor in the region. Due to which majority of population suffers serious health issues.

KWF’s Approach

To solve this problem, KWF is organising various free weekly medical camps on village levels, to help the locals with minor ailments. Team KWF is also, working closely with the local authorities to setup community clinics

Anti- Poaching and conflict mitigation

The Problem

Poaching is one of the biggest issues faced by forest communities and is conssidered as threat around the world. Whenever there are any changes in laws or any step is taken by the government in forest areas, conflicts arises between the forest dependendent

KWF’s Approach

To solve this problem, team KWF works closely with the ground staff and takes preventive measures to eleminate the issue. To avoid conflicts, KWF acts as a mediatator and fascilitator between the comminities and the government organisations

Promotion of Eco- Tourism and reforestation

The Problem

Due to it’s remote location and many illegal activities in the past, tourism is very less in areas of Kaimur wildlife sanctuary. It’s beautiful landscape is still unexplored and untouched. Also, during the surveys team KWF found many areas where there are no trees, due to which wild animals face issues in taking refuge in such areas.

KWF’s Approach

Team KWF is working in collaboration with forest department, to promote tourism in the sanctuary, as it will create multiple livelihood opportunities for the locals living in the area.
We are also working towards planting trees and encourage reforestation in some areas, so that the wild animals could take shelters there. Doing this will increase the population density of wild animals in the area which in future may become home to many wild species living around the sanctuary

Awareness and Sensitization

The Problem

Due to Lack of awareness on the benefits of wildlife conservation, the forest dependent communities face issue in terms of livelihood generation, they often face issues in coping with the new forest laws

KWF’s Approach

To solve this problem, KWF is actively organising awareness sessions in different communities, with the help of IEC materials and repport building we are upto some extent successful in raising awareness within the communities

Bird and Animal Care

The Problem

Due to the vast area, many times injured animals and birds could not get cured and they die in the forests itself

KWF’s Approach

Our ground team works on rescuing injured animals and birds and hand them over to the forest department for immediate care and treatment

Livelihood

The Problem

Due to the lack of opportunities, forest dependent communities have very limited livelihood options. Due to which people are moving out of the forests to get themselves a better living which certainly leads to disturbance in forest ecosystem

KWF’s Approach

KWF is working on multiple options to soon introduce and create alternative livelihood opportunities for the local in the area.

Education

The Problem

Due to remote location, education facilities in the area are also very poor, due to which either the children are left uneducated or they move out

KWF’s Approach

Right to Education is basic human right of any being living on the planet and to prevent the violation of this right, KWF has introduced NFEs in multiple areas of KWS.
